Question
I was diagnosed with mild asthma about 5 years ago. I was given a rescue inhaler (albuterol) and told to use it as needed. For the first few years I only needed it a couple times a month, mostly during exercise. But for the past 4-5 months I've been reaching for it almost every day, sometimes twice a day. It always works and I feel fine after using it, but the fact that I need it this often seems like it's getting worse.
Context
I don't have a controller inhaler or any daily medication for the asthma. I've just been using the rescue one. My last appointment with my doctor was over a year ago and at that point things were still pretty well controlled. I keep putting off making an appointment because I feel fine as long as I have the inhaler on me.

That's good to know, I appreciate you taking the time. I'm going to stop putting it off and make an appointment this week. The fact that I've gone from using it a couple times a month to every day is clearly not something I should just ignore.

Hello! Based on your description your symptoms indicate that you now may have uncontrolled asthma. You may need to be started on maintenance inhaler to be used daily. Follow up on with your doctor to investigate any recent triggering factors that maybe be mitigated, possibly obtain blood work, imaging and/or a breathing test.
