Question
I've been thinking about getting one of those whitening kits with the trays and the gel. My teeth aren't terrible but they're not bright either. Is it safe to do this at home or am I going to damage my enamel?

I agree. Definitely talk to your dentist before starting anything, but in general these kits tend to be safe. If you want to play it even safer, you can use something like crest whitening strips, or even a whitening toothpaste, like the ones from crest or sensodyne. They’re pretty safe, and the toothpastes usually don’t cause any sensitivity. They basically work by having slightly more abrasive particles, which scrub the stains off better. Really useful if used right before a dinner or big event

I would defer to your treating dentist who has a better idea of the current state of health of your teeth, but in general, if used as directed on the label, they are safe and provide satisfactory whitening outcomes. They can indeed cause sensitivity, but it will pass.

Same experience. The instructions say every day but that's overkill for most people.

I did them and my teeth got super sensitive for like a month. Cut back to twice a week and use a sensitivity toothpaste alongside, way better.

Crest white strips have been around forever and dentists don't seem worried about them. The kits with gel can cause sensitivity if you overdo it though.
